 recently opened a location on Hurstbourne Parkway, its second inless than two years. Fair warning: clicking your heels three timeswon’t get you to either one. But owner Rob Marcum said the1939 film was indeed the motivation for the name of the gallery.He’s always like “The Wizard of Oz,” Marcum said.“I think it has a lot to teach children.” The newlocation, at 2103 S. Hurstbourne Parkway, will be home to thegallery’s new interior design division. The first location,at 12613 Taylorsville Road, in Tyler Center near the Gene SnyderFreeway, opened in January 2007. About six months later, thegallery was expanded and the 5,700-square-foot outlet now serves asretail space for Oz’s eclectic collection of art — bigand small. Artwork is purchased for the store from local andnational artists. Merchandise ranges from oversized paintings andmirrors to metal art, fountains, bronze statues and a variety ofother items. Oz also has a graphic design department offeringservices that include the digital transfer of photographs tocanvas, making them resemble paintings. Prices also vary widely— an oil lamp can be purchased for $48, but the 9-foot-tallTyrannosaurus Rex made from recycled metal will cost you nearly$5,000. A few items, such as some bronze statues and originalpaintings, can cost up to $15,000, said Terri Miller, director ofthe gallery. Abby Bell, who leads the corporate sales and interiordesign division, said the diverse collection helps her match itemswith clients’ decor and tastes. “This is adesigner’s dream,” she said. “It’s verydifficult to find fabulous artwork.” With the new division,Oz intends to target owners of high-end homes and corporateclients, such as banks, hotels and doctors offices, Bell and Millersaid. Bell previously served as a designer for Interior MarketplaceLLC, on Frankfort Avenue. She also has worked for Burdorf’s,Cherry House Inc. and once had her own firm.
